I am enjoying this thread, more so because of the memories it brings, rather
than the rightness or wrongness of the positions stated.

All these years I have been charging off to IBCLC conferences, I have had to
keep my continuing legal education (CLE) credits up, too. Imagine being a
female lawyer, in the early 90's (when we all had to look, act and dress
like men in order to be accepted in the profession in the USA), trying to
quietly suckle an infant during a CLE on criminal procedure. I sat in the
very last row, and anyone who has seen me at a conference knows I am a
self-proclaimed Front Row Geek (Hi Diane Wiessinger! Hi Cathy Genna! Hi
Linda Smith!). This was my No. 2 child, Easiest, Sleepiest, Quietest Baby
on the Face of the Earth. It was a lunch-time CLE, so most of the
participants were too busy eating to pay attention to anyone -- incl. the
presenter.

I was in such fits of agony that I was going to be discovered breastfeeding
(Gasp! Does the bar association even allow hard-nosed prosecutors to be
mothers? BF mothers ?!) that I nearly passed out. Needless to say, nothing
happened. I did in fact BF that day (gotta love those slings). Baby was
happy -- the other lawyers were clueless -- I got in my CLE. But I never
screwed up the courage to do that again, and always juggled ways to meet my
nurslings' needs while dashing off to CLEs.

Thank for the memories, ladies! I'm trying to picture fitting that Baby No.
2 into the sling today -- she's 16 years of age.
