ARGGH!!!

If I were this mother I would ignore the doctor's advice, mainly by
his immediate putting the blame on breastfeeding. Did he bother to
examine the baby? Maybe the answer is as simple as bleeding from a
fissure or diaper rash (yes diaper rashes can bleed).

I also think that it is not necessary milk protein from the mother's
diet which can cause blood, but the lactose intolerance story. The
approach to this is getting more high fat milk into the baby. At
worst and as a last resort, expressed milk in a bottle would take away
the symptoms.

But one (1) episode, una vez, eins, echad, une fois blood in the stool
and the baby is onto predigested formula? Holy Toledo!
