Kathleen Auerbach has done it again! Her "Current Issues in Clinical
Lactation, 2000, Jones and Bartlett Publishers, ISBN:0-7637-1024-5 is a
valuable addition to any Lactation Consultant's (or wanna-be's) library.
Kathleen explains why she has produced "another" lactation publication, one
that focuses on "clinical" lactation issues in her editorial. This issue
is for LCs out in the "lactational trenches." She says that these LCs
"often feel that their concerns are not always mirrored in the publications
they read [or] the articles they file for future reference."

The aim of this publication is to reflect on "clinical concerns" via
clinical and case reports. Hopefully these clinical impressions will lead
to carefully constructed research protocols and reports of this research.
Commentaries on issues that are important to clinical LCs are included
along with several regular columns: The Business of Clinical Practice;
Signs and Superscripts (dealing with the interface of scientific reports
and how the clinician can use these reports); Professional Concerns;
Breastfeeding Advocacy and Visual Challenge.

I especially liked Barbara Wilson-Clay's column "Lactation Consultants: Are
We a Profession Yet?" and Diane Wiessinger's "the Nature of Waves" written
on Behalf of Breastfeeding. Pat Young, RN, APN, IBCLC
