>> The AAP has "encouraged" flu shots for infants age 6 mos. through 23 mos. this year. Next year it will be "recommended". <<

I have personally wondered if standard 'recommendations' or 'guidelines' would be different if the majority of our population was normally fed (exclusively breastfed, and breastfed for two years or more), as opposed to the majority of our population being artificially fed from birth. I think Diane's question was in reference to a healthy, full-term baby that has been/is exclusively breastfed, and who is at low risk of exposure.

Do any medical care providers take this distinction into consideration when recommending the flu shot?

Anecdotally, my artificially fed asthmatic 5 yo, in school, therefore at greater risk, is prone to picking up things easily, and when she gets sick it drags on and on... The flu shot is for her.

My still breastfed 2.5 yo, at home with me, therefore at less risk, is rarely ever sick and when she does get sick she bounces back very quickly, or often has a very mild version of what we get. Not considering the flu shot for this one.
