Except it isn't true - or at least not as generally true as the story 
would have us believe.
I got a call from the journalist last Friday, and was asked to 
comment on women being prescribed this drug.

Note I am not quoted, because I wouldn't, couldn't say what she 
wanted me to say.

I told her clearly that if there was a genuine trend for people to 
use this drug, we (NCT) would have heard about it - and we haven't. 
She wanted me to tell her there was a backlash against breastfeeding 
and that women were increasingly asking for drugs to suppress it.

I told her that people do call to ask about stopping breastfeeding 
for many reasons, and we offer them a discussion of options; 
explanations of how to stop breastfeeding safely and comfortably 
would be part of this if the woman wanted it.

I told her there is no evidence that fewer women are breastfeeding 
these days. The evidence is all the other way, and we have good, 
reliable stats, reguarly collected locally and nationally, in the UK.

I am disappointed that Geraldine Miskin, whom I don't know, is 
described as a breastfeeding counsellor. She is not  a breastfeeding 
counsellor, but of course it may be the newspaper thought she was.

There has been discussion on UK email about the risks of this drug, 
which were not detailed, and no one else has noted a trend or 
icreased demand either.

I suspect - but cannot be sure - the drug has been prescribed to a 
handful of metropolitan ladies with private doctors.

You can tell, by reading the article carefully, and seeing how little 
real information is there, how much has been made of very little.
