Morgan, I can relate to your experience with your youtube item. I can
remember the shock/horror response when, at the end of the 1990s, I started
to state that breast wasn't "best". People who had been supporting
breastfeeding mothers and babies for years looked appalled, as if I'd sold
out. Since they sensed that wouldn't have happened, they listened to my
explanation, though at first I wasn't convinced I'd got the point across.
There were only a few of us making this point round the world. It is an
excellent way of making people in the lactation community think, but - from
Morgan's post and others - the message still isn't getting through. We have
a long way to go.

Remember, it isn't "impossible" to change perceptions. It is only
"impossible" if we make it so. This is true in many areas of life.

Morgan Gallagher wrote, in response to Pam Morrison and other posters:

Very hard work, and very misunderstood. I am constantly being emailed via
the youtube account, by irate mothers demanding I take down the 'Breast Is
No Longer Best' video of your talk, Karleen. They rage that everyone knows
Breast Is Best, and some have complained to youtube that the video should be
banned, as it's 'harmful to the health of infants'.

Clearly, of course, because they have either not watched it through, or
simply _cannot_ understand the message. We have so flooded the culture with
'breast is best', some mothers have a violent, visceral reaction to any
suggestion that challenges it. It blots out their ability to then absorb
the next part of the message, breast is normal and formula is flawed.

Such a large stick we have made to beat our own backs with. :-(

Although highly amusing that I also get complaints form the lactavist
community, as well as massive attacks by the 'breastfeeding is
pornography/paedophilia' community. Equal opportunity abuse! :-)
