Fio, That is a very very tough situation. Because, as you have suggested,
continued donation could quickly lead this mother to less bf, premature
weaning, dependence on you, etc.
I think I would try everything I could think of to get her to bf baby
herself. Does the hospital have any interpreters? We have a language line
where you can do a 3 way call with you, the mom, and a Chinese-English
interpreter. Are there LLL mtgs there or other mother support groups, can
you take her to one or more of those? Just seeing other mothers holding and
feeding their own babies might help. Do you think there is a reason like
drug use or something that is making mom fearful of feeding her baby?
Maybe you could find a meaningful phrase and just keep repeating it to
her like "Chinese baby needs Chinese milk" or "your baby needs your milk"
(I'm sure you've tried that one) or "one week old baby needs one week old
milk" i.e. not 1 yr old milk. Such a hard situation, I dont' have a good
answer.
Maybe I would donate but have the milk in an SNS or Lactaid if one could be
had, and baby could only get it if latched and bf at mom's breast. I would
not be comfortable donating if it meant the end of mom's own bf relationship
though.
