I think many new moms interchanges ''fussyness'' for ''not understanding
normal newborn behaviour''. They are made to believ in our weestern society
that baby's eat and then sleep for a couple of hours at least. But normal
newborns want to be with mom. If not with mom within reach of the breast
(secureness, warmth and food as defined by his instincts) he goes into the
alarm mode, which is interpreted as ''being fussy and wanting to drink all
the time, so he must be hungry''.

About: the sleep inducing effect of milk. I don't know about other cultures,
but Dutch moms and grandma's advised a mug of hot milk right before bedtime
(drinking it while sitting in bed) for children who can't get to sleep. Many
adults use it as well. Chees is believed to have kind of the same effect,
though a bit less, because it's not a warm beverage.

Warmly greeting,
