The OT's have a trick to teach strawdrinking: place a 12" or so length
of clean aquarium tubing in a squeeze bottle (the kind used for
decorating cakes, or making chocolates) after having cut the cone shaped
top of the bottle so the tubing fits snugly. Place tubing in infant
mouth, squeeze bottle slowly, until baby gets the idea to draw from the
straw. I haven't tried it with newborns, but it is one option I offer
to moms returning to work whose nurslings won't touch bottles...
