Dear Friends:

Alison returns...........a nice surprise.

Alison, do you know of evidence supporting the use of the finger feeder.?
Someone posted on LACTNET (within the past 2 years, I think) saying that in her
clinical experience, finger feeding led to babies keeping their mouths closed
to feed. In other words, gape was lost.

The Breastfeeding Review article about finger feeding that said the method
was effective was done in a facility that won Baby Friendly status around the
same time as finger feeding was introduced.

So I am unsure about this method, and would like some evidence and support.

Thanks, and welcome back Alison!! We need more folks with CST/SER skills in
our profession.

warmly,

Nikki Lee RN, MS, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CCE, CIMI
