<< If anyone has any suggestions on encouraging a baby who has been head down
for weeks and just turned breech over night at 36 weeks to turn back to
being head down... I would be very grateful for private replies! Mom is of
course very eager to avoid any interventions that might ultimately adversely
affect breastfeeding (such as C-S, epidural, etc.). See, this does relate to
breastfeeding :) Thanks :)

Hi Mari:

At 41+ weeks with my 4th (and last) pregnancy but 5th child, I woke up one
morning and knew she had turned to a breech during the night. (She had been
vertex for a long time until then.) I knew she was now breech because oneof
my twins had been breech until a few days before birth, and it's a "feel" one
comes to know. At any rate, my nurse midwife confirmed it with palpation
later that day.

I went home and did the "exercise" to help turn a breech as described and
illustrated in Rahima Baldwin's book about birth at home. As I recall, I lay
with on my back with my hips propped higher on a couple pillows and lifted my
legs (held together) until they formed a right angle with my hips (relatively
speaking for 41+ weeks!). I held that for a few minutes. Repeated once or
twice every couple of hours. (I could be rusty on these directions, as this
daughter is now 16 y.o.! I recommend getting a copy of the book, but I
loaned my copy and never got it back so someone else will have to come up
with the title.)

About 4-6 hours after first doing the exercise, I had my hand on my
duaghter's head up by my rib cage when she started to turn back to vertex. I
kept my hand on her head and followed her as she turned, until I could no
longer feel her head as it slipped into the pelvic outlet. It felt just as
dramatic as it sounds. She decided to remain in the vertex position until her
birth several days later.

Karen
