Dear Friends:
Today I made a home visit to a lady from the Ukraine (here for 8 years)
her newborn son and her 11 year old daughter.
11 year old daughter LOVES sticking pacifier in baby's mouth. This shuts
baby up, misses feeds, gets mom to rest, and gives new sister LOTS of control.
Only 1.3 oz gain in 3 days. Mom admitted she could feed 1-2 times more in a
day. Young girl very involved in visit, is the family translator.
This insurance work is awesome, because I am there right at a critical
time, after discharge, to keep the ball rolling. With the Ukrainian lady, I can
go back. She knows I am coming back soon, she will feed baby more and things
will get so much better in her home, baby will be happy, that she will sleep. I
am so glad to be here.
The money totally sucks. However, there are other payoffs!!
Like talking to a very young and unsophisticated, sweet and gullible new
mother and describing skin to skin. She got all excited, "I saw that in a film
at my doctor's office!" She told of her husband, how he liked doing that with
the baby, and of how baby liked doing it with him. Now she will do skin to
skin more, breastfeeding will only get more wonderful, and she will have a
happy, healthy baby, family, and self.
    And bless that doctor!!
Women are so receptive to following their instincts on these new days
after birth. I never saw that in the hospital and only rarely in private
practice. Women that could afford me in private practice often called after 2 weeks,
when things are far more difficult.
This is a gift from the universe, after some hard times!
Important to share with 3,000+ friends.
    warmly,
