There was a report tonight on 20/20 about the Tabitha Waldrin case, in which a
young mother is being prosecuted for homicide for killing her baby by
breastfeeding him inadequately. I've heard some about this case in the past, but
this was the first time I've heard details such as: she had breast reduction surgery
at 15, and no-one told her of the possible impact on her milk supply. One
omission in the whole report stood out: there was not *one* mention of urine
and stool output as a measure of the baby's intake. Marianne Neifert was
shown, putting forth that pesky "5%" figure again. And Elizabeth Baldwin (legal
expert with "La Leche Society" <sheesh!>) was shown (lookin' good, Liz!)
making eminent sense about why this case is absurd.
