Hi Christine,



We do not have a specific policy on breastfeeding and marijuana.  We have created a flyer that our mothers receive prenatally that basically says infants should not be exposed to marijuana through smoke or through breastfeeding.  We offer them the number to our counselors for further information/assistance, and we inform them that if mom or baby test postive for THC on admission, we must report to our Dept of Children and Families as mandated by state law.   If mom or baby do test postive and mom is breastfeeding - she is instructed to discontinue using marijuana but we do not tell her she "can't breastfeed."   Her case is - as stated above, reported to DCF.   She is not required to pump & discard her milk.   Mother and baby are then followed by DCF &/or pediatrician after discharge.
