Watch the baby cry! The tongue tip should touch or almost touch the 
palate when the baby cries with his mouth wide open. If the tongue does 
not stick straight up in the mouth during crying, but the front curls 
back, then the midtongue elevation is restricted.

You can also feel the baby suck, and you'll feel the front of the tongue 
lift against your finger during the wavelike movement of the tongue, but 
the mid tongue will not. Sometimes you'll hear a click.
