I think the idea of internal or self-pacing for term newborns sounds good
re: control, but it means all health professionals understand infant cues
related need for a break and achievement of satiety and instruct parents
about them. I find many health professionals are unaware of these cues,
which means parents are always getting good/any instruction for continuity
of care. Also, fast flow can mean taking in too much too fast before cueing
for a break -- kind of like one of us sitting down to a large meal and
eating so fast our brain doesn't have time to give us the "reached satiety"
message. Let's not even get into the desire to avoid wasting an expensive
product or the desire that a little more may mean baby sleeps longer.

Young infants have a sucking reflex vs. voluntary suck, so they will suck
when the stimulus is presented -- even when they've had enough.

Don't even get me started on how meal portions are being "super-sized" for
"other-fed" infants from birth. (There's a reason those free hospital
formula bottles come in 2 oz portions, although the newborn's stomach is not
really ready for such an amount.)

Ditto about the consent form!
