As previously posted I've added the grandmother credential to my qualifications. Little did I know what that post would bring! A day or so later, I got an e-mail from a subscriber who hasn't posted to the list yet, but who wanted to send congratulations. She had a similarly empowering birth experience in the town where my sister lives, Bellingham, WA, last summer. I continued reading and was delighted so learn that she moved to Oslo just over a month ago as her husband is studying there, and she is still getting oriented, without a network of other mothers around her.
My daughter moved from the western city of Bergen, to Oslo, just a month ago as well. She has friends there but none who are at present home with young babies. To top it all off, this subscriber was preparing to qualify as a postpartum doula when she was interrupted by having her baby, and has done a 40 hour course in breastfeeding through Healthy Children. Three guesses what I suggested to her for how to start getting acquainted with other breastfeeding mothers in Oslo?
So now she and my daughter are going to meet up, and with any luck I'll get to meet her too. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that Lactnet would present me with the ideal start of a supportive mothers group for my own daughter in Norway, and here it is. This list is The Best, simple as that.
My daughter and granddaughter are enjoying breastfeeding and apart from a sojourn into edible lingerie (bra made of cabbage leaves from days 4-6) she has not needed the services of a breastfeeding specialist beyond the expert feeder she gave birth to. Even my son-in-law seems to have acquired some expertise. As he was serving my daughter spaghetti one evening while she was feeding the baby, he said to me knowingly, 'It's just a matter of waiting for that big gape' as he shoveled a forkful into her mouth.
I'll let this subscriber introduce herself when she's ready - I do have her permission to post this :-)
cheers
