Dear Lactnet Friends:

Pamela Morrison wonders about the latest article on this topic.

I've not read the whole article yet.

However, I imagine that there will always be some babies who sleep away.
Survival is never guaranteed.

If society is truly concerned about infant deaths, then no mother will
smoke anything while pregnant, all babies will receive human milk for as
long as possible, paid maternity leave will be available for at least 4
months, tobacco and alcohol will not be used in a house with a baby. . .
and mothering will be viewed as an honorable and valued activity, instead
of a collection of tasks to get through.

That might go a long way to reducing infant deaths.

feeling a bit cynical this morning. . .
