Block feeding is simply assigning all feedings to one breast for a certain
period of time.  So, if the block feedings were to start off at 4 hour
blocks, then the baby would eat from the right breast from 12 - 4 and then
from the left breast from 5-9 etc.  If the baby asks to eat more than once
in that "block of time" he stays on the assigned breast.  This decreases the
stimulation to the breasts.  After a couple days if she hasn't noticed any
decrease in her supply, she can increase the block of time by another hour.
It is usually a good idea to increase these blocks slowly so that the mother
doesn't develop plugged ducts or become severely engorged.  It is not
uncommon for moms to feed from just one breast for a 6-8 hour "block of
time".
