Katherine said, "The scientist (I think I mentioned
previously she is a new nursing
mama) was
recommended by an IBCLC to ask around and see if
anyone wanted to
donate
milk to the primates, since "it was such a colossal
pain in the ___ to
donate milk to a milk bank" and she felt that "at
least its better than
dumping it down the sink.""
I've heard this more than twice in the last couple of
weeks- not that the donation should go to non-human
primates but that it is really hard to donate to a
milk bank. One was from a mom of a preemie, who was
also a vet and was frustrated by the need to drive
over an hour to donate milk. I know some hospitals
act as collection depots but I don't know how many.
That would make a huge difference for stressed out new
moms, IMO.
Katherine, I'm not going to let anyone in my family
see what your son does while nursing! My 2.5 yo is a
pretty civilised nursling so he doesn't need to learn
to lean over the couch and kick. A couple days ago he
found a nursing pillow and hauled it over to me with
great delight and insisted on nursing on it. He
barely fits in my lap alone, so it was very
uncomfortable- I was also surprised he knew what it
was since it hasn't even been in the house for 8 mos
and he hasn't used it for well over a year. :-)
