Thanks so much to everyone that answered my questions about thalassemia.
I spoke with the mother on Monday and she had decided that she could not
continue breastfeeding.  She said that she was relieved to be pumping and
breastmilk feeding.  I offered to refer her to another LC but she said
that she had already wasted a week of her maternity leave on sore nipples
and daily weigh ins with baby's doctor.

I am sad that she was not able to get the info that she needed from myself
or the LC that she was seeing.  I guess we can't win them all.
