Were the stools still meconium or transitional? I would be very suspicious of
a baby whose stools were not yellow by day 4, esp if they were still mec. It
sounds like you are asking all the right questions. Maybe you could also
start asking the moms if babies are jaundiced during your phone interview.
But, then it may be hard for some to tell us HOW jaundiced the baby is.
Sometimes it is difficult to get all the pertinent info over the phone. If we
could see these babies, it would make for a much better assessment.

I think it is great that you are able to call these moms so soon after birth.
We don't have the time available to us to do that. You have probably caught
lots of  problems or potential problems through this service. Hope you
continue this good work & let us know how other hospitals can "justify" this
service.  If only we didn't have to worry so much about budgets!
