***Are you still seeing the same trend in your practice? Also, how do you
find it best to educate and approach them regarding breastfeeding? Lastly, are
you aware if schools are beginning to include breastfeeding in the curriculum?

In our area I am not seeing any education in the schools. I have chosen to
approach this by dealing directly with the school staff...principal, counselor,
nurse, etc. I attended a training session and gave a speech on "teens and
breastfeeding." They seemed very interested, yet slow to move. At WIC, we are
offering a new series of teen classes, but to my sadness we only give
breastfeeding one quarter a year, so many Mom's miss the classes since they tend to
come in later in pregnancy! I do teen one on one, and am planning on trying a
"teen support" group. Thing is, they don't want to do things after school and
during school will not work at this point! I am attempting to get involved in
the one on one with the school, but only get a "so-so" response. If we could
get the school leaders to understand the importance and how it will affect
them, we might see more change! But, that takes tons of footwork, and to be
honest, it is a time issue!
