I am a hospital based lactation consultant who recently got Nils
Bergman's video about kangeroo care for neonates. When I showed it to
some of the staff, they were gung-ho to try it out. Our early babies
are usually 33 weeks and on, and really just growers. We seem to be
having difficulty convincing their Moms, who are offered a hospital room
for the duration of the stay so that they can be with their babies, to
get them out of the plastic box, (usually just an isolet for warmth)
and hold them. We noticed in the video that the parents are given first
a cloth wrap to wrap around their torso and the baby, and then an
"over-blouse" over that. Does anyone know where one would find a
pattern for these, or if one is available? We tried the e-mail address
on the video but got no response.
Also, does anyone know of a current reference to back up the changed gut
ph after "just one bottle"? We have a pediatrician who is really upset
that one of his patient's Mom brought him a copy of that little
handout. He doesn't believe it, and the reference to back that up
appeared to be microbiology data from the 70's. Thanks to you all,
Rebecca Garcia, RNC,IBCLC
