Awww...my heart goes out to this father and his little family!  How sad...here 
are parents who WANT to have their baby breastfed; here are parents who 
WANT to receive care and are asking for it; here are parents who are going 
above and beyond what IS offered, in order to do what is right by their baby, 
and in order to preserve breastfeeding.  And here are parents who are NOT 
getting what they need, who have already experienced *numerous* barriers 
to breastfeeding!

How sad.  I bet there are many of us reading this who wish we could just fly 
down there and sit with that family until their issues are resolved (which 
sound like baby is not latching deep enough and/or not transferring milk 
effectively enough).

I do not believe the barriers expressed in this family's situation (Intervention, 
Policy, HCP attitudes, and Lack of Continuity) are the *fault* of the hosptial, 
of the on-staff LC, or of any one hcp...I believe this family's barriers have 
come into play simply because we all follow a crisis-management model of 
offering lactation care and is it NOT effective in more than HALF of all 
situations (as evidenced by breastfeeding rates and durations in North 
America).

My position is that if this family had been under the care of a qualified IBCLC 
who is available to them for education, maintanence AND crisis situations 
throughout their entire breastfeeding journey, this would not have happened.  
This *should* not have happened.

I wonder about all those OTHER families at this hosptial, and many like it, who 
do not go the extra mile to contact LLL or the like.

Sad.  Very sad.
