I had to look twice to be sure you weren't one of my co-workers!
This is exactly the kind of @#$% I've been dealing with. Every time
I try to improve wording in our materials to make breastfeeding the
norm I'm hit with the "G" word. Any attempt to give parents
information to help them make an INFORMED choice is perceived as
being against Family Centered Care. When I try to point out that
there are times we give info counter to a parent's choice such as:
parent doesn't want to use a car seat-patent wants to have baby
sleep on it's tummy; I am cut off with "We're talking about
breastfeeding here!"

I originally had planned to continue working here past my Medicare
eligibility date, but now I am counting the time (16 months and 6
days) until I can retire. If it weren't for the fact that I would
not be able to get health insurance without paying 75% of our
retirement income, I'd be out the door now. I have gone from loving
my job to being paranoid about every word I utter.

It would be great if we were all in a position to speak out like
Marsha Walker. Unfortunately there are those of us for whom reality
means we sometimes have to compromise and "wimp down" what we really
want to say and do. Those of you in a position to freely speak out
and stand up for what you know is best, please keep doing so. The
more who can and do speak out, the better chance that those that
keep the rest of us under the thumb may hear what we've been saying
form another source. That might begin to chip away at the attitudes
we cannot attack under the present circumstances.

Thanks for the opportunity to vent!

Winnie
