Hi! I am Jacquie Nutt, LLL Leader from Harare, Zimbabwe. This is my first
attempt at posting after days of lurking, and I have wanted to comment on so
much. Forgive me for putting things together in one mail now that I have
finally gathered up the courage to write.
I loved the little guy's question: "Mom, why are you breastfeeding
that bottle?" At a recent workshop, a delegate asked us to explain the term
"nipple confusion". She said that she had breastfed 4 children and had
never come across confused nipples. Reminded me of "inverted nipples - they
try to get milk out of the baby."
In the post about caries and breast milk, I didn't see any comments
made about breast milk being a living fluid. Don't the macrophages or
leukocytes in breast milk attack *oral* bacteria???
I heartily agree with the post I read today about NOT promoting the
use of ABM in pancakes etc. Don't take it at all, not even for garden
fertiliser or pet food. The message only gets through if the sample is
rejected consistently. If the new mother accepts the sample, for whatever
reason, she affirming that formula should be distributed in the hospitals.
If it is FREE then it won't cost her anything to *leave it behind*.
Jacquie (who is glad to live in a country which supports the WHO Code - but
admits there still is a great deal of misinformation around)
