I think the original request was for data on the cost/benefit of having an IBCLC on staff in a hospital. There are actually a number of articles demonstrating that access to lactation consultants improves breastfeeding rates, duration, and exclusivity, but few on the costs/benefit of LCs. I have a handout on the effect of LCs and how they make a difference that we use in our education of legislators here in Massachusetts which I am happy to share if people would like a copy.?The following article should be helpful regarding actual money issues:
