Terry: Here's one more for you. There was a story last night in the Phoenix,
AZ media about an AZ mom who gave birth to a 5#14oz boy after 6 hrs labor, all
apparently healthy. At 10 wks gestation, she went through a cardiac standstill
surgery for a large arterial aneurysm pressing on her brain stem. Her body temp
was lowered over a 3 hr period until her heart stopped, and remained so for 29
minutes. She was maintained on a heart-lung machine during the arterial repair.
Baby's heart rate dropped from 130 to 30 during the cooling process and stayed
at that rate during those 29 minutes. Surgery was successful but DRs were
concerned about baby's brain development. (Without the surgery, they felt the
risk was to the lives of both mom & baby.) Ultrasound showed normal brain
development. Baby roomed in with mom after birth and all was a perfect picture
... except for the bottle mom was giving her miracle baby boy!
(...great gnashing of teeth...!@#$%^...)
