It's also important to remember that with just a little effort, baby may
continue to nurse happily a little longer and 11 months sounds way to young
to me to be weaning.

Hi! My name is Jennifer Walker. I have been a WIC peer counselor for the past
year and a half and have been lurking on Lactnet for several months. I feel
the reading I've done here has increased my knowledge base tremendously. What
a wonderful resource to have at finger's tip! I've also attended La Leche
meetings since the birth of my first child, in 1987. I have a total of three
girls ages 9, 5 and 16 months. In response to the post concerning older baby
and infrequent nursing, the obvious thing to do would be to discontinue all
bottles. If baby is getting sucking needs met in other ways than at the
breast, nursing wil be less frequent. Maybe too much pacifier use as well?
Possibly some sheltered nursing would be appropriate as well as waiting till
baby is almost asleep or sleeping lightly. I can't imagine any 11 month old
who would not play with the tubes of an SNS!
