So maybe all those babies who want to flutter-suck all night long in bed
beside mommy aren't just trying to deprive her of sleep? Could it be
that what babies are actually supposed to be sucking on to prevent apnea
is not a pacifier or a thumb but a BREAST? Maybe this amazingly common
behavior of wanting to suck non-nutritively as they doze, which is
viewed as so unacceptable in late 20th century Western culture, serves a
purpose? Could it be that babies know more than Dr. Ferber?
