Dear Cindy,

What a world we live in! I experienced discrimination by ONE faculty
member when I attended classes at a large college. The faculty was a
FAMILY PSYCHOLOGY professor and couldn't understand why I wanted to bond
with my newborn daughter and why I had to bring her to class with me.
HEL-LO!!! I gathered the written support of MANY, MANY classmates, as
well as a letter from my pediatrician affirming the value of the mother
child relationship as well as the benefits of breastfeeding AND
breastmilk. I also requested the support of other faculty members who
wrote letters of support. I then gathered these up, made several copies
and met with the Assist. Dean of Student Affairs. When the issue was
not resolved, I asked classmates to take notes for me and I also taped
the lectures. I arranged for a caregiver to watch my baby RIGHT OUTSIDE
OF THE CLASSROOM where I could SEE her and a nursed my baby when she
needed. In all other classes, my baby was welcome. I finally knocked
on the door of the WIFE of the University President. She got things
"rolling" and my baby was allowed to participate in class with me.
Email me privately if you want details of the support letters, they are
very well written! Good luck! Let us know how this turns out!
