I was one of the people approached to speak at this debate, Ellen -
the one which is sponsored by the infant formula companies, and which
the author of this article is promoting. I was invited as a
journalist who often writes about infant feeding matters. I refused
to speak, on ethical grounds, and I am glad to say my volunteer
organisation, NCT, who were also approached, refused in their turn.

Spiked is a web-zine which I think I could describe as right-wing
libertarian. The editor is the author of this piece and she has a
history of writing against pro-breastfeeding campaigning.

As it happens, I think the breastfeeding literature and campaigning
in the UK does fall short in effectiveness and relevance, but I am
mystfied as to why she thinks any debate sponsored by the formula
companies can be an ethical platform for anyone.
