Heidi voiced a concern that a statement from the AAP would recommend
vitamin D supplementation for all babies. The resolution states that
they will study the issue and make a statement. Hopefully the statement
will be in keeping with the scientific data and will clearly the state
that in most cases, except those in which mothers and their babies have
no sunlight exposure and mother's diets exclude vitamin D fortified dairy
foods, there is no need for supplementation. Perhaps the members of the
Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine who belong to AAP can have a say there,
as well as any other Lactnet physicians. Alicia. [log in to unmask]
