Jennifer, I agree that medicalization of childbirth is a significant
obstacle to breastfeeding, as it is an obstacle to normal childbearing of
which breastfeeding is a part.  That is entirely on topic, as long as we
keep in mind that Lactnet is about helping people who are working with
breastfeeding.  Indeed, it seems to me that the most vulnerable babies would
benefit even more than the robust, term ones, from as little medication as
possible and as little intervention as possible, something which ought to be
doable in any tertiary care setting.  Simply having things at one's disposal
is not a good reason for using them!

I will repeat, however, that specific discussions on the merits or risks of
SPECIFIC components of the medicalization of childbearing are not always on
topic for Lactnet.  Please, everyone, keep the focus here.  Do the
digressions off the list.
