I don't have any citations, but I could ask my 5 yo what she thinks. She has contined nursing once a day at bed time even though I can not express a drop from the side she usually nurses from. She says there is lots of milk, though I doubt her. Breastfeeding is about more than food. I can think of many reasons DD has nursed over the years and how helpful my breasts have been as a parenting tool. They are soothing and comfortable, they stop tears and frustration, they help a 5 yo to sleep almost every night, they offer distraction when I need to talk on the phone....

Subject: help to show bf benefits after 1 yr

Does anyone have a recent article that details the benefits of bf after 1
yr? One of the pedi docs I work with just told a mom there were no
benefits after 6mo, and since her child just turned a year, she should
'make things easier for herself, and stop bf.' She stopped that day!
Called me due to engorgement, and when I asked if she wanted to continue a
few times a day, we got into the discussion about the value of brmilk in
the second year. She trusts my statements, but we want to help the doc
understand as well. Thanks for the wisdom of the Lactnuts! michelle
