We don't routinely supplement large babies at our hospital and we don't
teach this to future nurses. However, we make sure we check on them so
they are breastfed as soon as possible after birth if they are over some
8 pounds (4 kilos), and that they are fed often afterwards. We teach
mothers about the possibility of lower sugar levels since their babies
are larger than normal and encourage them to breastfeed at least every 2
hours during the first 24 hours. Why supplement with non-natural stuff
if mom has what is needed for her own child????
