Lyla writes:
Since there is a mountain of evidence to the contrary with "normal"
breastfeeding situations, we focus on the unusual or special situations and
use those to target the natural wonder of human milk, since there is not so
much clear cut data for those more unique issues. Just pondering, but I do
think distrust and a need for cold, hard figures is endemic in our
culture. The "we" in this post obviously doesn't refer to we here on
lactnet, but the more general, societal "we."

This is an interesting point about targeting human milk as the problem in
these special cases. I think Lyla is right on target with that analysis. What is
ironic in Hagan's situation is that, unlike many special needs cases, Hagan is
a very healthy little girl. We have not dealt with constant ear or
respiratory infections, constipation, etc. The one thing we do contrary to many is give
her half her calories each day in breastmilk. Hmmmm....how come no one makes
that association when evaluating her?

Sorry to keep going over the same thing. I know I'm preaching to the choir
here on Lacnet but all the confirming views sure light my fire! Heather
