Anne,
Reading your post sent me back 5 1/2 years to when my daughter was born
(shiver, shiver!). However, it began my journey of learning about dairy
intolerance/allergy. Here's my $.02 worth.
Have mom eliminate dairy completely. Although this may not be the only
antagonist it is likely to be the major one. She and her husband will need to
become proficient at reading labels. They will need to look for the following
words on food labels: casein(the big one!), lactalbumin, lactoglobulin,
lactose, sodium caseinate and whey. Mom should completely avoid: acidophilis
milk, buttermilk, condensed milk, cultured milk, dried milk, evaporated milk,
malted milk, milk solids, powered milk, skim milk and whole milk.
This list includes milk proteins and milk sugars, both of which need to be
eliminated for at least a week to two weeks to give the elimination a chance
to make a difference.
I hope this helps. You can e-mail me privately for more information and other
sources of info if you want.
