The loss of pigmentation could also represent a different fungal
infection, like tinea versicolor.  She may or may not have candida also,
as the tinea can cause skin irritation, itching, burning, flakiness (I
don't know about redness) and can sometimes respond partially to the
antifungals used for candida.  If this is the case, her doc can prescribe
a high-dose selenium shampoo to wash the area with -- that should
hopefully treat it (though mine still hasn't gone away!)
