Do you think this is a case of a mother looking for someone to blame
because she doesn't want to take her own responsibility? There are times
when a person will attribute to others thoughts or faults they really
don't want to acknowledge in themselves. So if she was feeling that she
was letting her baby down, she could have wanted someone to scapegoat
for that.
Armchair psychology, I know.
