Tried private e-mail for the student with the breastfeeding clinic and
nursing theories, but it got returned as undeliverable. I'm way behind, and
the topic is probably long dead, but thought I'd add my two cents worth
anyway.

I always hated nursing theories when I was in nursing school and later in
university because they seemed so irrelevant and so overly idealistic - no
reality base at all. This one, however, is different!!

I'd recommend Swanson - It's the weekend so I don't have the actual ref to
post (can get it on Monday if anyone wants) but her theory is 'Informed
Caring for the Well Being of Others' and it works on the concepts of
'Maintaining Belief', 'Being With', 'Knowing', etc. It is a terrific theory
for perinatal nursing and my hospital has based its Philosophy and perinatal
RN position description on Swanson's theory. Haven't explained it very well
but it suits the one on one, listening, understanding the event and what it
means to the patient, etc. Really would adapt well to a breastfeeding
clinic.
