This afternoon I received a call from a woman in NYC who was calling on
behalf of her sister, who lives in Israel. The Israeli woman has given
birth to a two pound preemie. The doctors in the hospital there have said
that they do not have any human milk fortifier in Israel and therefore want
the baby to receive only artificial infant breastmilk substitute. My caller
was interested in purchasing human milk fortifier here in NY and sending it
to Israel via express delivery.

I have already put her in contact with LCs in Israel for immediate help with
this problem.

IF it is true that there is no human milk fortifier available in Israel,
1- what other medically sound options might make sense?
2- how would one go about getting the hmf in NYC?
3- are there different types of hmf?
4- does one need a prescription for hmf?

I do not have any experience with babies this small and did not get full
information from this woman since I am only peripherally involved. I
cannot add more details to my questions at this time.

Thanks,
