Hi All,
Just a quick question:
How long do the "feeding cues" last? (the ones we associate with newborns)
Do they taper off after a couple of months, when mom is s'posed to be in
tune with baby, or do they hang in there the same as newborn feeding cues,
or do they change to different "cues"?

About the baby with reflux...
Please do not pump and bot feed with cereal. THis is ridiculous. What this
mom needs to do is watch the baby. If the baby is growing and thriving,
then great. If there is a problem, then treatment should be looked at. All
putting cereal in a bottle is going to do is make thicker spit up (messier
too) and create a higher risk of problems should baby aspirate some.
As mom whose son was not correctly diagnosed with Reflux until 18 mo of age
(having started refressing developmentally, losing weight and refusing to
eat) I know that reflux can be a scary thing. But most kids will grow out
of it, and if they are having serious enough of a problem then medication
(my son had Reglen, I believe) works well. Surgery is only for the most
severe cases.
My question here is how did they diagnose this reflux? Did the Dr do a
barium swallow and x-ray? If not, then is this diagnosis based on the
spitting? If so, then maybe this kid is allergic to dairy products and not
truly a reflux kid. This is what happened with my 2nd child. Since true
reflux was a family history, when my 2nd son was born and started spitting
like crazy, Dr assumed that it was again reflux. When the med did nothing,
we looked at possible allergies. Dairy was the culprit.
