Hi all
Just a few thoughts for you all to consider.....I was recently advised about
a relatively new marketing practice in the US by Medela advertising their
'complete feeding system'. I was intrigued and managed to find a copy of the
brochure which has a picture of a bottle and teat on the front cover. In
Australia we are severing ties with any company that breaches the WHO Code.
Medela in the Asia Pacific region has always been very careful in its
marketing practices and following discussions with them very recently and in
response to concerns about this new brochure, have been assured that Asia
Pacific will not be marketing the new system in this way and that basically
the USA does what Medela USA does what it wants and no one can tell them
what to do! I am very confused by this apparent 'one rule for the USA and
one for the rest of world' that seems to be happening? Please do correct me
if I am wrong! I continue to see advertisements for Lansinoh even though
they have been taken over in part by Pigeon - major WHO Code breakers, and
now little seems to have been said re Medela USA and I believe Evenflo are
getting in on the act as well. The question I pose to us all is 'why aren't
all IBCLCs supporting the WHO Code and subsequent Resolutions and telling
companies to get it right!' ALCA in Australia certainly is making it clear
that we will not deal with companies that breach the Code - where does ILCA
stand? USLCA? LLL? The hospital I worked in until recently stopped giving
out and selling lansinoh when Pigeon became involved. So, Where do you
stand?
