Meg asks whether there are cases of mothers drinking their own milk to treat
themselves for things.
One anecdotal report follows:
A friend here was home on her own with two children and got a stomach bug.
Couldn't keep anything down and was having diarrhea. Kids were fine, but
she was a wreck, not sleeping because she was up all night (use your
imaginations here). I spoke with her on the evening of the second day of
this ordeal and suggested she take a dose of her own milk to take care of
the cooties that were bothering her gut. She drank a small amount shortly
thereafter, and didn't vomit or have diarrhea again.
Could have been coincidence, could have been the milk. She certainly didn't
get any worse after drinking it, and she felt it was the milk that helped
her. Since her breastfed child remained well throughout, it seems possible
it was the milk. That doesn't explain why the older child was also well.
