All the posts about the variety of experiences with weight gain/loss/ bf and
obesity in children, show that there are many factors including genetics,
metabolism, food habits, etc. that effect each individual in their own way.
I have two thin children and one chubby one, all breastfed the same. I lost
weight rapidly while breastfeeding each of them, especially during the 3 - 6
month period. Third child, who is now 4 years old and quite chubby, became
chubby at three months, well before beginning solids. (weight was high for
length already then). She actually breastfed a lot less frequently than the
other two. Ever since her first bite of food, she loves to eat a lot,
has distinctly different eating habits than her thin brother and sister, our
home is relatively free of junk food and we have generally healthy balanced
meals without much snacking and sweets. (okay, my husband sabotages that,
but I am the main shopper and cook, so healthy eating still dominates). She
is physically very active and gets a few hours of exercise every day.
Genetically she has "chubby" genes from my father's side and father in law,
and, even though she is only four years old, it is obvious to me that her
inherent type outweighs (no pun intended) any impact of factors such as food
habits and breastfeeding.
