There are some advantages, not only the infection fighting ones. Re the
protective effects of bf re infection, I would tell her it is considered to
be dose dependent. So that babies that normally would be getting 24/7 100%
breastfeeding (as a group) do not compare much to babies getting 95% formula
and 5% ebm (as a group). However here are some advantages, even to partial
bf or partial ebm feeding:
saves money on formula purchases
may provide enough protection to keep baby less sick so therefore save on dr
visits and meds
mom's breasts adjust to the weaning better
the enzymes may be helping the baby digest his milk
the growth factors may be helping mature the gut
when baby is grown up he will feel better knowing his mother did bf him for
x weeks (let her know that more than likely his generation will know about
the reasons one should bf)
