The last time I was given a sample, it was for a topical anti-inflammatory,
whose risks outweighed the benefits for my situation, where a hands-on
manipulative treatment probably could have fixed the problem and was what I
was hoping for. When pregnant with my first child, the OB office insisted
I take the samples, just in case, and I told them I would rather have LLL
contact info "just in case." The time before that, I was a graduate
student, given a paper sack full of samples for allergy meds, when my
presenting problem was that I had inhaled a cat hair and needed it
removed. They couldn't see it, and insisted I just had allergies. FYI, I
sneezed it out later in the day and there it was, lying in my palm.

So my clear bias is that I take a very negative view of samples, and in my
experience it has been a shortcut in place of real treatment.

That said, I think that if mom or doc needs a visual representation of the
formula label for convenience sake, then by all means print off an image
from the manufacturer's website, or even tear the label off a can and put
it in a page protector. Heck, note the prices, too.

Appropriate information can be given without inadvertently endorsing a
product.
