A woman called me tonight desparate for help in drying up her milk. I
was all prepared to try to really make a difference with her and convince
her to at least pump.
She is 32 years old. Had a miscarriage 7 years ago. Lactation occured
after that but became worse about 4 years ago. She has been seen numerous
times by an Endocrinologist.( WHo now says "she has to learn to live with it.)
She has had MRI, CAT scans and lots of blood work. They were looking
for a pituitary tumor. It was all negative. Her prolactin levels remain
around 180. SHe has taken as much as 25 mg.of Parlodel a day. It makes her
feel "sick and woosy." The prolactin level did drop but comes up as soon
as she goes off the dose. They have also tried various types and
combinations of progesterone/estrogen and it didn't relieve it. SHe is
currently separated from her husband but states she did have nipple
stimulation about 2 times a week during love making. But none for a few weeks.
She would love to find out what's causing it. But now, wants to try herbs
and other remedies. SHe is going to try cabbage and Sage tea.
She does leak at times. SHe is not having periods @ present and would
like to have a baby in the next few years.
Any Ideas???
